How her book “Fear is My Homeboy” changed my entire outlook on fear
and putting in the work to become besties with it.

When I downloaded this book on the Kindle app, first I was sold by the hot pink cover. I’m a sucka for hot pink! Then the gold foil was to die for! Anyone who puts this much of a luxe feel to a book cover I knew she was speaking my language. So Ms. Judi Holler already got major brownie points before I even started the book. The eye for design on this cover is 🤌🏽!

Let me just say that this book is one of the best books I have ever read. Literally, #2 for sure! (Sorry Judi but no one can top Les Miserables. It will always be near and dear to my heart. I’m sure other Musical Theatre kids will relate. ) You knocked out Glennon Doyle’s Untamed from the #2 spot but it’s ok I still love both of your works.

This is the first book where I got so pumped up all the way through! I’m like “fuck yes I’m going to do this!” “Come on fear, we’re doing this shit. You and Me. It’s on!” the entire time. I was literally in a 🎶 first-class, head-above-the-clouds 🎶 type of feeling. (If you haven’t heard First Class – by Chocoholic f/ Kev, Tate Tucker, and Subi, I highly recommend it!)

It took me 3 weeks to finish the book because I was only reading 15-20 minutes a day when I could. Trust me if I had the time to just sit and read, I would have finished the book in 1-2 days tops. That’s how I read when I don’t have anything to do but now that I’m adulting my reading gets slowed down even though I don’t like it very much. I promise you Fear is My Homeboy is one of those books that you could binge on if you don’t have time constraints.

I think one of the biggest takeaways from this book is the following quote:

You are enough, you were born ready,
and you have more power than you realize.

Y’all when I read this… Whoo! Ms. Judi was taking us to church okay and granted this was literally on page 8 of the book. It was only the beginning!

Fear is what made me play small because fear is made to keep us safe but there’s a difference between it being our best friend and our enemy. If Fear cripples you, then it becomes your enemy. Now, these are not Judi’s words, these are mine. I realized that I was making fear my enemy instead of making fear my bestie.

Everything I wanted was outside of my comfort zone and fear was keeping me from making that leap of faith to get to where I wanted to be. Well, no more of that!

I am making #FearBoss moves and stepping into my own!
